The Archdiocesan CYO has provided the following information about a possible 2021 spring sports season:
Basketball - Planning for Possible March tournament format.
Soccer - Planning for modified 8v8 season.
Cross-Country - Planning for shortened season.
In addition, the Rockville Baseball Association, which sponsors baseball and softball leagues in which St. Jane CYO teams play, and the Columbus League, in which the St. Jane CYO track team participates, have indicated they are making tentative plans for 2021 spring seasons as well.
Of course, this depends on circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic. But St. Jane CYO student athletes and their families can be assured that we will be providing registration and other information whenever sports activities are scheduled to begin.
And please don't forget that CYO sports will continue to be a volunteer-driven initiative, so consider serving as a coach or assistant coach. Coaching requires Virtus certification and completion of the health and safety training sessions discussed below, which can be completed now to ensure coaching eligibility once sports resume.
New Archdiocesan CYO Training Online Training Requirements for St. Jane CYO Coaches
Any individual coaching a team in an Archdiocesan CYO league will now be required to take, and provide course completion information regarding, an online youth ministry coaching clinic and two online youth sports health courses: the Play Like a Champion Youth Ministry clinic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's course on concussion prevention and treatment, and the National Federation of State High School Associations' course on heat illness prevention. Details on how to access these training sessions and provide information to the Archdiocesan and the St. Jane CYO to ensure receiving credit for course completion can be found under the "For Coaches" link.
